This mix is based on Moses' journey of leading the Israelites out of Egypt to the Promised Land of Cannan(now Israel). The Israelites moaned and groaned while on the journey and wanted to go back to Egypt where they were slaves. God vowed for those that left Egypt not enter the Promised Land because they lacked faith. God waited 40 years until showing them where the Promised Land was, which ended up being a very short distance from Egypt. See the book of Exodus for the entire story.
